Spaceship

Building:  Koethe Residence
Location:  Urbandale, IA
Time:  5:00 pm
Composition:  Since this is a private house, I used a telephoto lens to photograph the building.  As a result, the photograph is compressed, making the trees in the foreground appear larger than they really are.
Process:  None
Meta Data:  185mm     f/5     SS: 1/100s     ISO: 100

Towers of Des Moines

Building:  Various buildings of Des Moines (From right to left)  801 Grand (Principal Building), Bankers Trust Building, Des Moines Marriott Hotel, Equitable Building, Wells Fargo, & Plaza Building
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  5:22pm
Composition:  Photograph taken from capital hill.  I am standing on axis with Locust street.  Here, most of the buildings in Des Moines are visible.
Process:  Continued experimenting with long exposure photography.  I cropped out the street because it was over exposed.  Since the subject was the skyline, the street was not needed.
Meta Data:  86mm     f/22     SS: 25s     ISO: 100

World Food at night

Building:  World Food Prize
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  5:54pm
Composition:  I wanted to experiment with long exposure photography so I stepped the f-stop down as low as I could to have a long shutter opening.  The long shutter opening is responsible for the 'explosion' happening with each light.
Process:  HDRd 3 exposures together in photoshop
Critique:  I took this photo way to late resulting in a sky that is too dark.
Meta Data:  18mm     f/22     SS: 15s     ISO 100

T8 Sculpture

Building:  T8
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  7:50am

Process:  I played around with the image colors to build up the contrast of the image
Meta Data:  55mm     f/5.6     SS: 1/800s     ISO: 100

A Winter Street

Downtown Alley

Building; Alley next to the Komodo Club
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  5:28pm
Composition:   I took this photo from an elevated position inside the skywalk.  I liked the tire treads that go in and out of the alley.  I didn't use an effect or anything on this photo, but it reminds me a lot of a miniature effect photo.  I think this is due to the difference in contrast due to sunlight between the ground and the tops of the buildings.
Process:  None

Industrial Hallway

Molly Bio Atrium Space

Building:  Molecular Biology

Gridded Reflection

Building:  Memorial Union
Location:  Ames, IA
Time:  2:39 pm
Composition:   The photograph shows the new addition to memorial union reflecting the original Memorial Union.  The gridded glass distorts the reflection of the building giving it a curvaceous appearance.
Process:  none
Meta Data:  34mm     f/5.6     SS: 1/250s  ISO: 100

Winged Light

Building:  Memorial Union
Location:  Ames, IA
Time:  2:42 pm
Composition: This lighting fixture reminds me of opening a book.  Seeing how this image was taken from the doorway of a library it seems fitting.  To me, the light represents the story coming out of said book.  I really enjoy how the panels are slightly separated to allow a little light to come through between them and not rely completely on reflection.
Process:  none
Meta Data:  26mm     f/5.6     SS: 1/6s     ISO: 100

Ramp Landing

Building:  The President's House
Location:   Ames, IA
Time:  2:35 pm
Composition:  Crouched on the landing of a ramp.  I like how the curve of the ramp disappears into the thin brich divide.  The ramps keep the eye moving around the frame.
Process:  none
Critique:  The sky is washed out
Meta Data:  18mm     f/5.6     SS:1/50s     ISO: 100

V-Support

Building:  Howe Hall
Location:  Ames, IA
Time:  2:11 pm
Composition:  The two columns are angled to mimic the way forces move down a structure.  If the columns were simply vertical, they would have to be thicker to resist twisting or have a support between them.  The angles allow for thing columns and reduce the likelihood of the structure getting knocked over.
Process:  None
Meta Data: 18mm     f/5     SS: 1/2s     ISO:100

Perforated Staircase

Building:  Howe Hall
Location:  Ames, IA
Time:  2:11 PM
Composition:  The stair railings are made 4 perforated metal templates that are flipped and rearranged to give the appearance of 16 different panels.  From this angle, the panels allow one to see what is on the other side.  The most interesting part is to see the exterior light coming through the panels.
Process:  None

Shaded Model

Building:  Rural Retreat:
Location: Ames, IA
Time: 2:24 pm
Composition:  I figured since I'm spending all of my time making a model I would share a progress picture.  I oriented the model so that there are two light sources acting on it.  One light source represents morning and the other represents evening.  As you can see the two light sources are inversely related when acting on the model.
Process: None
