Pointing the Way

Building:  Principle River Walk main pavilion
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  5:58pm
Composition:  I used the corner of the pavilion as the center point of the image so that everything on the periphery draws the eye inward.  What I really liked about the image was the rays of light coming from the left side of the image and the reflections they made on glass railing that is also on the left.

Private Park

Building: World Food Prize
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  5:52pm
Composition:  In experimenting with my wide angle lens, I took this shot and noticed how objects in the center of the frame appear to be further away while objects on the periphery of the image seem to appear closer.  This is seen in the building that is in the background, where the perspective is slightly distorted.

Colored Bridge

Building:  Gray's Lake Bridge
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  9:39pm
Composition:  By standing off to the left of the bridge, I was able to capture the Des Moines skyline in the image, which shows the relationship between the bridge and the city.  In addition, the sweep of the bridge is easier to see.  Unfortunately, I got to the bridge a little later than planned due to traffic and missed the dusk period, as a result I had to bump up my ISO and shutter speed to get a decent amount of light into the picture, which sadly resulted in some noise in the sky.
Process:  Used Photoshop Raw to increase the saturation of the colored lights on the bridge.

Corner Office Lighting

Building:  JE Dunn Office
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  4:51pm
Composition: This image shows the relationship between the outdoors, corner office, and cubicles of the office.
Process:  I took 5 exposures of this shot because there was so much natural light coming from the windows that even the shortest exposure came out over exposed.  I spent a lot of time manually revealing and hiding light with layers.  I removed a majority of reflections from the glass wall to give a geater relationship between the corner office and cubical.

Process:  Cropped the top and left of the image and converted image to greyscale in Photoshop

Gnomes

Building:  Equitable Building
Location:  Des Moines, IA
Time:  5:34pm
Composition:  "Gargoyal" that decorates an exterior column of the building.  I wanted to capture the face of the gnome.  The immediate foreground and background are blurred to put more emphasis of the gnome.

Arbor Springs

Building:  Arbor Springs

Covered Bridge

Building:  Cedar Bridge
Location: Madison County, IA
Time:  1:52pm
Composition:  As of now, the bridge has been heavily vandalized.  From a distance the vandalism is hard to make out.  The bridge currently, is one of the few covered bridges of Iowa remaining and is one of even fewer that are allowed to be driven on.  The composition gives the appearance that the bridge is going from a lush green area to an open clearing.
Process:  None
Meta Data:  18mm     f/5.6     SS: 1/400s     ISO: 100
